On Friday, his longtime friend and fellow actor Barry Primus confirmed the news, revealing that Forrest had succumbed to a long illness. Throughout his illustrious career, Frederic Forrest left an indelible mark with his remarkable performances in film and television. He died at his home in Santa Monica.

Born on December 23, 1936, in Waxahachie, Texas, Frederic Forrest embarked on a remarkable career in the late 1960s. Initially focusing on theater productions, he honed his craft and showcased his exceptional talent on stage. Forrest made his debut in the world of cinema with a small role in the 1967 film “The Tiger Makes Out.” However, it was his portrayal of “Chef” in the Vietnam War masterpiece “Apocalypse Now” (1979) that catapulted him to prominence.

He portrayed the romantic interest of 77-year-old actress Bette Midler in the 1997 musical Dear The Rose. Midler paid him respect via a Twitter post, writing “The great and beloved Frederic Forrest has died. Thank you to all of his fans and friends for all their support these last few months.”She added, “He was a remarkable actor, and a brilliant human being, and I was lucky to have him in my life. He was at peace.”

Coppola gave him roles in “The Conversation,” “Hammett,” “Tucker: The Man and His Dream,” and “One From the Heart.” According to Variety in a statement Coppola write “Freddie Forrest was a sweet, much beloved person, a wonderful actor and a good friend, His loss is heartbreaking to me.”

Forrest’s sister, Ginger Forrest Jackson, and her husband, David, as well as his nephew Forrest Allen Jackson and niece Sally Jackson Brezic, Jackson Galbraith, Leah Jackson, and Helen Sanders of Los Angeles are left to carry on without him.
